Kherson - the city of shipbuilder

Kherson - a large administrative center in the south of Ukraine, "the city of shipbuilders," was founded by the decree of Empress Catherine II in 1778. The scope and speed of development of the city in the early years after the founding was just amazing. So, in one year was built Kherson fortress and the Admiralty.

But if from Kherson fortress left the building, supporting the mystery of centuries (South and North Gate, a powder keg, Ekaterinensky cathedral), the Admiralty, which was the cradle of the Black Sea Fleet was undeservedly forgotten. After all, at the shipyard, which lasted more than half a century, only a year after the founding of the city was laid the first gun ship.

The only guideline for city residents as well as guests staying in Kherson is a monument in the form of a sailboat on a high pedestal. This monument is the most recognizable symbol of Kherson and called Frigate. It was set in 1972 in honour of the first ships of the Black Sea Fleet: 50 - gun frigate “George” and 66 -gun battleship "Glory of Catherine".

Also unfairly consigned to oblivion building of the best hotel Kherson called "European". In the 19 century it was the second largest and beautiful hotel after the St. Petersburg hotel. To date, it has retained its functional purpose - it is still one of the hotels of Kherson "May 1". Unfortunately, despite the fact that prices in the hotel "May 1" very loyal, those wishing to stay in it become less. So elegant building in the style of romantic Art Nouveau, which revives one of the central streets of the city is in decline. However, recent trends in Kherson, associated with the growth of its investment attractiveness, and thus the demand for accommodation in Kherson will allow to restore this hotel, like many architectural monuments of the city, its popularity.
