Polish - Ukrainian history of Ivano-Frankivsk
Ivano-Frankivsk city was founded in 1662 by Krakow Hetman Andrzej Potocki and received its name in honor of his father - Stanislaviv (or Stanislaw). The main purpose was to strengthen the borders of Poland from the raids of the Tatars and the Zaporozhye Cossacks.
